What is the difference between a gestational carrier and a traditional surrogate?
New Beginnings Surrogacy Services exclusively provides gestational surrogacy services as recommended by the Society of Assisted Reproductive Medicine and in accordance with US Federal Guidelines.
Gestational Surrogacy is when intended parents use their own eggs and sperm donor eggs and/or sperm to create embryos through IVF. The resulting embryo is transferred into a surrogate’s uterus, who then will carry the baby to term. A gestational surrogate has no biological relationship to the baby and the intended parents assume all legal parental rights upon delivery.
Traditional Surrogacy is performed by artificially inseminating a surrogate mother using her own eggs which have been fertilized by the intended father’s sperm or donated sperm. In this surrogacy process, the surrogate has a biological connection to the baby. Traditional surrogacy is not widely practiced in the United States due to common legal and emotional complications after the baby is born.
New Beginnings does not facilitate traditional surrogacy services. You may use your own surrogate instead of going through the matching process.
This is a great option for those looking to use a friend, family member, or other options for their surrogate mother. Although you can use your own surrogate, she must pass our extensive surrogate screening process before moving forward with a contractual agreement covering the embryo transfer procedure.
Things to consider when choosing a surrogate mother
When choosing a surrogate mother, enlisting an experienced surrogacy agency that offers comprehensive services is the only way to go. Consider the following:

Other things to consider when choosing a surrogate mother
Your selected surrogacy agency should be a partner in your fertility journey to parenthood. The best gestational surrogate agencies are a wealth of information for intended parents, helping to prepare you for the entire process. Some important topics to discuss at your initial meetings include:
- Who you should include on your fertility journey to establish a support system?
- Can you request face-to-face meeting with potential surrogate candidates?
- What will your financial commitment be?
- What legalities must you consider?
Surrogacy Support System
It is highly recommended that you build and lean on a solid personal support system. You don’t need to take on surrogacy alone. A leading surrogacy agency is a wealth of information for intended parents.
We can help you to decide on the members of your surrogacy support system. These members will be those who are capable of contributing a positive force during your surrogacy experience.
- Your partner
- Your parents
- Your siblings
- Your extended family members
- Your close friends
- Friends you’ve met at a surrogacy support group
Face-to-face matching process
We are one of very few agencies in the country to conduct in-home visits for all of our surrogate candidates. These visits give us the inside advantage to evaluate a potential candidate for acceptance as a perfect match. Also, in-home visits provide us with the opportunity to make sure the potential surrogate lives in a happy, healthy, and safe environment.
After the in-home visit is performed – we put together a thorough packet for the Intended Parents to review. If the Intended Parents are desirous of selecting the potential surrogate as their match, they can decide whether or not a face-to-face meeting is necessary. If so, a formal in-person introduction will be made by the personal coordinator.
Your financial commitment
Because surrogacy is an expensive process, you must be well-informed of all expected costs. The cost of surrogacy will be based on the IVF protocol recommended by your fertility doctor. Your cost of surrogacy will range between $90,000 and $175,000. Because we want to make sure you are not surprised by hidden fees, click here for a cost overview. We are a leading gestational surrogacy agency having unparalleled success in cost-effectively matching parents-to-be with a perfect surrogate mother.
Legalities you must consider
Before a perfect match between you and a surrogate candidate can made, both parties must have a clear understanding of whether or not surrogacy is legal in their respective states. If a contract for surrogacy is not legal in the state of residence of either party, it will not be enforced by a court should a dispute arise.
You are invited to check out our Surrogacy Laws by Map to see whether or not your state is surrogacy-friendly. We can recommend a nationwide list of attorneys who specialize in surrogacy law to help you draft and finalize the written contract with your chosen surrogate mother.
